ABOUT

In March of 2020, Bill Floyd opened Porta’Vino in the Houston Heights, fulfilling a career-long dream to own a BYOB restaurant and create an environment ripe for fantastic food, friends, fellowship, and of course, wine. Porta’Vino is the culmination of Bill’s 35 years of experience in Houston restaurants.

Despite opening just 11 days before closing for the pandemic, Porta’Vino quickly gained a following among Houstonians, who were delighted by the superior wine list and pricing and the menu developed by award-winning Houston Chef, Danny Trace, of Potente and Osso & Kristalla.

In April of 2021, Bill invited his longtime friend, Greg Brenneman, to Porta’Vino for dinner. Their friendship dates back to 1995, when Bill was at the Houston restaurant, Americas, and Greg was the President & COO of Continental Airlines. As part of the legendary turnaround, Continental created the Continental Congress of Chefs, which was composed of chefs in each Continental hub city. Americas was selected as the Houston restaurant, so Bill, Greg & others worked together on the menu for International First Class passengers departing from Houston.

Bill & Greg’s careers then diverged for a couple of decades. Bill opened and owned iconic Houston restaurants, such as Reef, Potente, El Real, Jackson Street BBQ, and Osso & Kristalla, and worked with renowned chefs Robert Del Grande, Michael Cordua, Jean Georges Vongrichten, and Danny Trace. Greg went on to turn around Burger King and PwC Consulting and run private equity firm CCMP Capital. Through the years, he continued to frequent Bill’s restaurants.

At the time of the meeting in April 2021, Bill was looking for a partner and Greg was looking for a fun investment. Greg loved the wine list, delicious food, and warm environment. Their years of friendship and experience came together, and in March 2022, they opened a new location of Porta’Vino in The Woodlands. Bill and Greg are excited to have you join them for food, fellowship, and fun!

New in Town: Porta'Vino The Woodlands

Porta’Vino is part restaurant, part wine store, featuring amazing deals on bottles of wine and delicious Italian dishes. Floyd worked with renowned Houston chef, Danny Trace, to develop a casual Italian menu including salads, pizzas, pastas, and more – all under $30. There’s a reason why they opened the second Porta’Vino in The Woodlands: it’s been home to Brenneman since 1994. He was close friends with George Mitchell and watched the area develop. Even after moving away to serve as the CEO of Burger King, Brenneman moved back because he and his family loved living in The Woodlands. Plus, he says, it’s a phenomenal place to run a business.
